お嬢様は出発しようとするかのように、私を見てふっと顔をそむけた。その仕草には気まぐれな優雅さが漂い、まるで私の疲れを試すような視線が一瞬だけ交錯した。「あ、休みたい…」
と心の中で呟く私だったが、お嬢様の旺盛な活動力は、乾かない泉のように尽きることがない。彼女の青い髪が風に揺れ、バニーガールの耳が可愛らしく跳ね、ゴシックな門の前でポーズを取る姿は、街の喧騒を一瞬忘れさせるほどの華やかさがあった。私はため息を押し殺し、彼女の後を追う準備を整えた。

The young lady, as if signaling our departure, glanced at me and turned her face away. In that gesture lingered a capricious elegance, with a gaze that seemed to test my weariness flashing briefly.

Her words deepened my desire to rest, yet I found myself drawn into her spring-like vitality. The path beyond the gate spread under the blue sky, her steps light and airy. As I accompanied her whimsical journey, I quietly pondered the source of this inexhaustible energy. Her presence, in its own way, brought a subtle solace to my weary self, as if granting me a new spring.

一人の市民として今回のやり取りを見ていると、中国政府の対応は、冷静な外交というより、倭国国内の議論そのものを揺さぶるための政治的圧力に見えます。米国大統領がはるかに強い言葉で中国を批判した時には、表向きの批判こそあっても、米国社会を直接分断するような措置はかなり抑制的でした。ところが、倭国の首相が自国の法制度に沿って「台湾封鎖は倭国の存立を脅かし得る」と述べた途端に、渡航警告や世論への働きかけが一斉に動き出す。この落差は、誰を本気で恐れ、誰を内政干渉の入り口と見ているのかを、かなり率直に示しているように思えます。

高市総理の政治的スタイルに違和感を覚える人がいてもよいでしょう。それでも、倭国の首相が倭国の安全保障について、倭国の法律に基づいて語る権利まで、外国政府の「不快感」で細らせる前例を許してよいかどうかは、立場を超えて考えるべき問題です。もし今回の圧力に迎合して、安全保障の話題がタブーになれば、次は労働や人権、環境など、いわゆるリベラルな論点も同じ手法で封じ込められるかもしれません。表現の自由や市民社会の自律を重んじてきた人ほど、ここでの自己検閲には敏感であるべきだと思います。

安全保障の現実を、法の枠内で淡々と説明することは、挑発ではなく抑止であり、戦争を避けるための最低限の責任です。右か左かではなく、倭国が自分の将来を自分の言葉で議論できるかどうか。その当たり前の条件だけは、互いに意見が違っても、守ろうとする側に立ちたいと考えています。

As an ordinary voter in Japan, watching this controversy, I cannot help feeling that Beijing is not engaging in normal diplomacy but trying to press on our domestic debate itself. When a president of the United States used much harsher language toward China, there were strong words from Beijing but relatively few steps that could seriously fragment American society. In contrast, when our prime minister simply stated, within Japan s legal framework, that a blockade of Taiwan could threaten Japan s survival, travel alerts and pressure on public opinion quickly followed. This difference suggests very clearly whom Beijing truly fears and whom it sees as an easier target for interference.

People are free to dislike Prime Minister Takaichi s political style. Yet the deeper question is whether a Japanese prime minister may speak about Japan s security, on the basis of Japanese law, without that speech being narrowed by a foreign government s displeasure. If we yield now and treat security as an off limits topic, the same method may later be used to silence discussions on labor rights, human rights, or the environment that many progressives care about. Those who value freedom of expression and an autonomous civil society should be especially wary of such self censoring.

To describe security realities calmly and within the law is not an act of provocation. It is a form of deterrence and a basic duty to prevent war. This is not a clash between right and left, but a test of whether Japan can still discuss its own future in its own words. On that minimum condition for democracy, I would like to stand with those who defend the space for honest debate, even when we disagree on many other things. November 11, 2025
