お嬢様はワイングラスを優雅に受け取り、執事の言葉を聞きながらふっと視線を窓辺に移した。
「ああ、そうか…久しぶりの晩餐会だね…楽しみだよ…」
その声には、期待の光が静かに灯り、部屋のキャンドルが彼女の黒いドレスに柔らかな影を落としていた。蜘蛛の巣が天井に張る中、執事は一礼し、
「お客様が屋敷にお越しになっています。そろそろ迎える準備をしてください」
と丁寧に促した。お嬢様はグラスをテーブルに置き、ゆっくり立ち上がり、鏡に向かって髪を整えた。久しぶりの客人を迎える喜びが、彼女の瞳に微かな輝きを加え、部屋の空気が少し重く、しかし心地よい緊張に満ちた。執事はそっとドアを開け、廊下から聞こえる足音が近づくのを待ち、私はこの夜がもたらす出会いの予感に、胸の奥で静かな波紋を感じた。お嬢様の存在は、屋敷の闇を優しく照らす灯火のように、晩餐会の始まりを予告していた。

The young lady gracefully accepted the wine glass, shifting her gaze to the window as she listened to the butler's words.
“Ah, I see... It's been a while since the last dinner party... I'm looking forward to it...”
Her voice carried a quiet spark of anticipation, with the room's candles casting soft shadows on her black dress. Amid the spiderwebs spanning the ceiling, the butler bowed and gently urged,
“My lady (the eldest daughter), the guests have arrived at the mansion. Please prepare to greet them soon.”
The young lady set the glass on the table, rose slowly, and began adjusting her hair in the mirror. The joy of welcoming long-absent guests added a subtle gleam to her eyes, filling the room with a heavy yet comfortable tension. The butler quietly opened the door, awaiting the approaching footsteps from the corridor, and I sensed a quiet ripple in my heart at the premonition of the encounters this night would bring. The young lady's presence, like a lamp softly illuminating the mansion's darkness, heralded the start of the dinner party.

彼女はあたりを見回しているうちに私と目が合った。私はぎくりとした。彼女の外見もとても魅力的だが、何か餌を狙う猛獣の目つきで射るような視線が、私の体の毛を逆立たせた。
そんなに驚く私の姿に、彼女は優しく微笑んだ。
「ごめん、びっくりしたな。今どこかの店を探しているんだけど、もしかしてあなたはXXXという店聞いたことある？」
その言葉は、街の喧騒の中で意外と柔らかく響き、彼女の狐耳が軽く揺れた。黒いスーツが日光を反射し、彼女の金髪が風に流れ、まるでこの街に溶け込もうとする異質な存在のように見えた。私は喉を鳴らし、彼女の視線に圧倒されながらも答えた。
「XXX…ああ、あの古い骨董品店のことですか？ 角を曲がってすぐですよ」
彼女は目を輝かせ、
「本当？ ありがとう！ 案内してくれる？」
と気軽に尋ねた。その笑顔には、猛獣のような鋭さが消え、好奇心だけが残っていた。私はためらいつつも頷き、彼女の後を追うことにした。街の路地を進む中、彼女の歩調は軽やかで、時折周囲をきょろきょろ見回す姿が、探検家のように感じられた。XXXの店に近づくと、彼女はふと立ち止まり、
「この街、面白いわね。何か秘密がありそう」
と呟いた。その言葉に、私の胸に静かなざわめきが広がった。彼女が探しているのは本当に店なのか、それとも何か別のものか――そんな疑問が、午後の陽光の下でそっと芽生えた。
The Fox's Curiosity is at the Core of the Issue2
As she looked around, her eyes met mine. I startled. Her appearance was incredibly alluring, but her piercing gaze, like a predator eyeing prey, made my hair stand on end.
Seeing my surprise, she smiled gently.
“Sorry, did I startle you? I'm looking for a place right now—have you heard of a shop called XXX?”
Her words resonated unexpectedly softly amid the city's noise, her fox ears twitching slightly. Her black suit reflected the sunlight, her blonde hair flowing in the wind, making her seem like an incongruous entity trying to blend into the street. I swallowed and, overwhelmed by her gaze, replied,
“XXX... oh, that old antique shop? It's just around the corner.”
Her eyes lit up.
“Really? Thanks! Would you mind showing me the way?”
With a moment's hesitation, I nodded and followed her. As we walked through the alleys, her steps were light, her gaze darting curiously around like an explorer. Nearing XXX, she paused and murmured,
“This town is interesting. Feels like it has secrets.”
Those words stirred a quiet unease in my chest. Was she really just looking for a shop, or something else? That question quietly sprouted under the afternoon sun.

お嬢様はいたずらっぽく前席に腰を下ろし、私をじろじろと見つめてきた。ただ戸惑う私の姿を楽しむ一種の遊戯のようだ。
「お嬢様、後部座席に移していただけませんか？」
私は声を低く抑えて尋ねた。お嬢様は目を細めて、
「あら？ 私が前に乗ったらダメなの？」
と返し、くすくすと笑みを浮かべた。お嬢様は必ず後ろに乗れという決まりはないが、執事としてお嬢様と同じラインで同席することになれば、面目が丸つぶれになる。心底当惑する。しかし、仕事は仕事。再び車のドアを開けて降り、前席のドアを開けてお嬢様を後部座席に案内すると、お嬢様は静かにくすくす笑いながら後部座席に静かに座った。その後、お嬢様は窓から外の景色を眺めながら、ふと口を開いた。
「あなたったら、いつもそんなに堅苦しいのね。少しは楽しむことを覚えなさいよ」
彼女の声には遊び心が混じり、車のエンジンが静かに響く中、街の建物が流れていく。後部座席から見える彼女の青い髪が日光に輝き、バニー耳が軽く揺れる姿は、いたずらめいた魅力に満ちていた。私は運転席でハンドルを握りしめ、心の奥でこの気まぐれな外出が何をもたらすのか、静かに思いを巡らせた。お嬢様の存在は、車内の空気を優しく、しかし確実に支配し、日常のルールを超えた何かを感じさせた。目的地の人形屋へ向かう道は、彼女の笑い声で少し明るくなった。
The young lady playfully settled into the front seat, staring at me intently. It seemed like a kind of amusement, enjoying my flustered appearance.
“My lady, would you mind moving to the back seat?”
I asked, keeping my voice low. She narrowed her eyes and replied,
“Oh? Am I not allowed to sit in front?”
with a soft chuckle. There's no strict rule that the young lady must sit in the back, but as a butler, sitting on the same level as her would crush my dignity. I was truly perplexed. However, duty is duty. I opened the car door again, got out, and opened the front door to guide her to the back seat, where she quietly sat, giggling softly.　Afterward, she gazed out the window at the scenery and suddenly said,
“You're always so stiff, aren't you? Learn to enjoy yourself a little.”
Her voice carried a playful note, and as the car's engine hummed softly, the city's buildings flowed by. Her blue hair gleaming in the sunlight from the back seat, her bunny ears swaying lightly, her figure was filled with mischievous charm. In the driver's seat, gripping the steering wheel, I quietly pondered what this whimsical outing might bring. The young lady's presence gently but surely dominated the car's interior, evoking something beyond everyday rules. The road to the doll shop brightened slightly with her laughter.
