Elementary school was honestly painful for me.
Not because I wasn’t trying—but because nothing flowed.

小学校は、正直つらかった。
頑張っていなかったわけじゃない。
ただ、何ひとつ流れてこなかった。

Lessons moved on regardless of whether anyone was actually thinking.
Copying from the blackboard was treated like “learning.”

淡々と進む授業。
強要される黒板の書き写し。
「考えること」より、「写すこと」が
“勉強”として扱われていた。

It drained curiosity instead of awakening it.
It made learning feel like punishment.

好奇心が育つどころか、
勉強そのものが苦痛になっていった。

Then I went to cram school.
And for the first time, I met “math that thinks.”

でも、塾に行って変わった。
はじめて、
「考える数学」に出会った。

It wasn’t about memorizing.
It was about understanding structure.

暗記じゃなかった。
構造をつかむことだった。

And suddenly—I was hooked.

そして、気づけば
夢中になっていた。

I often wonder:
What if school had been like that?

ふと思う。

もし、小学校に
あの“知的に引き込まれる授業”があったら。

If classes had spoken to children who think deeply, feel strongly, and question naturally—

もし、
考えすぎてしまう子や、
感じすぎてしまう子や、
疑問が止まらない子のための授業があったら。

Maybe we wouldn’t have learned to hate learning.

もしかしたら、
「勉強ぎらい」にならずにすんだかもしれない。

I didn’t want easier lessons.
I wanted lessons that were alive.

簡単な授業がほしかったんじゃない。
生きた授業がほしかった。

Lessons that made neurodivergent minds feel “welcome,” not “wrong.”

知性OEの子たちが
「浮かない」「ズレない」「置いていかれない」

そんな授業が受けたかった。

Not control. Not drills. Not obedience.
I wanted wonder.

管理じゃない。
訓練じゃない。
服従じゃない。

ワクワクが、ほしかった。

I still believe classrooms can be places that ignite minds—
not silence them.

教室は、
知性を黙らせる場所じゃなく、
火をつける場所であってほしい。

I hope one day, children with burning curiosity will find schools that can hold their fire.

いつか、
知性OEの炎をちゃんと受け止められる教室が
当たり前になりますように。

このたび、スリランカを直撃したサイクロンにより多くの尊い命が失われたことに、深い悲しみを覚えております。
犠牲になられた方々に哀悼の意を表するとともに、御遺族の皆様に謹んでお悔やみ申し上げます。

我が国は、人道的観点及びスリランカとの友好関係に鑑み、被災者の方々を支援すべく、国際協力機構（JICA）を通じて調査チームを派遣するとともに、緊急援助物資を供与することを決定いたしました。

被害に遭われた方々の一日も早い御回復と被災地の早期復興をお祈り申し上げます。

I am deeply saddened by the loss of many precious lives caused by the cyclone that hit Sri Lanka. I express my deep condolences to the victims and the bereaved families.
Based on a humanitarian perspective and in view of our friendly relations with Sri Lanka, Japan has decided to dispatch an assessment team and provide emergency relief goods to support those who are affected by the cyclone through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
I offer my sincere prayers for the earliest possible recovery of the injured and the reconstruction of disaster-stricken areas.

古垣鐵郎（1900－87）

駐フランス大使を5年務めた古垣は、フランス文化に精通し、倭国人としてビュフェの魅力をいち早く理解したひとりでした。
ビュフェの結婚披露パーティーをパリの倭国大使館で行ったこともあったそう☺️❗️
後に古垣は著書『私のビュッフェ』を出版するほど、二人は親しい交流がありました。

【Person Profile】
Tetsuro Furukaki (1900–87)

Having served as Ambassador to France for five years, Kogaki was deeply knowledgeable about French culture and was one of the first Japanese to recognize the appeal of Buffet.
It's said he even hosted Buffet's wedding reception at the Japanese Embassy in Paris! The two shared such a close friendship that Kogaki later published a book titled My Buffet.
